DONOR RECOGNITION PLAN
Creating a donor recognition plan is a crucial part to having a successful donor program. We have been successful in helping our clients gain campaign awareness and increase major donors. Here, at DonorSigns we design + build all donor recognition signage. Our experts work with you from start to finish to help with the planning process, answer any questions you may have, and of course creating the recognition itself.
The easiest thing to do is call (248) 930-3723 or email us with the following information. This will provide us with the information we need to provide you with a design layout and quote:
- Will you add names to the wall in the future?
- How many donor names should we include in our design?
- Are the names in giving levels? Approximately how many names per level?
- Will you include titles, tag lines, or logos?
- Describe your vision for the design of the wall. You may send photos of anything that may help you communicate your vision.
- Please provide measurements of the area receiving the donor wall.
- Please provide a project budget. If you do not have a a budget we can make suggestions based on the size of the campaign.
Once we have this information it will take two to three weeks to complete a design. We will provide you with a drawing(s) of the donor wall and information on materials and functionality. We will show made up donor names in place so we can determine that the size and scale is appropriate. The drawings will also show how the wall is updated, if applicable. And we’ll include cost information.
Establish a budget and we’ll stay within it. Our experience tells us that starting with a target budget is a critical success factor for an effective donor recognition program. You give us a price and we will work with you to get a donor wall that fits all of your organizations needs and taste. If we know the target, we can design a successful program, while staying as far under the budget as possible. We can design a custom donor wall that costs $10,000, $50,000 or $100,000. Or choose from our already designed Donor Wall Systems to stay within smaller budgets.
For a successful donor recognition plan, its is essential to calculate your budget. We can help you determine an appropriate budget based on your type of organization, the financial goals of the campaign and the anticipated number of prospective donors. For a small campaign you can spend as much as 5% of the campaign total. For a large campaign, you can go as low as .001% of the campaign total.
Example: $100,000 campaign at 5%= $5,000.
$100 million campaign at .001% = $100,000
A budget of $10,000 or above is a good starting point for custom donor walls and plaques. However, even with a smaller budget we can make our standard walls and plaques unique to your campaign.
We provide an initial set of design drawings showing how we can meet your goals. We’ll work with you to create a donor recognition plan that expresses your organizations brand vision, budget and functional criteria.
The time of design and fabrication varies greatly depending on the size of the order. If you are looking at our products online, it can take 1-2 days to design and approximately 2-3 weeks to fabricate. If you are going the custom route, it can take 2-3 weeks to design and two plus months to fabricate.
Every donor recognition project has an unalterable deadline. There is often a dedication event, or perhaps a major donor is coming for a visit. We are very diligent about keeping the project on schedule. This includes being proactive about making sure our busy clients are reviewing design concepts on time and are on track with developing the list of names.
Everything we do is designed to be affordable, manageable and easy to update.
A critical key to success is fully understanding the costs and process for adding new names to a recognition program. The challenges involved with managing hundreds or thousands of names can be daunting if an efficient process is not designed into the system at the start. The cost for updating names should be in balance with the gifts. It may be reasonable to spend $1,000 or more to recognize a gift of $10 million, but it would be too much for a $10,000 gift. Adding a $30 insert to a donor wall does not make sense when recognizing a $100 gift.
